Detailed Technical Explanation
The DEHN EXFS 100 and waterproof EXFS 100 KU are high-performance isolating spark gaps engineered to facilitate lightning equipotential bonding between metal installations that must remain galvanic isolated under normal conditions (such as cathodically protected pipelines, gas insulated flanges, or separate grounding networks).
During normal operation, the spark gap acts as an open circuit with high insulating resistance. When a lightning strike or dangerous surge causes a transient overvoltage across the insulated joint, the spark gap ignites within nanoseconds, creating an equipotential path that prevents destructive flashovers and arcing.
Approved for hazardous locations (Zone 1 / 2) with ATEX and IECEx certifications, the EXFS 100 KU features an impervious, corrosion-proof enclosure suitable for direct burial underground or immersion.
