Detailed Technical Explanation
Exothermic welding is a high-temperature aluminothermic chemical reaction between copper oxide and aluminum powder that creates a permanent, molecularly consolidated metallurgical joint. Unlike mechanical crimps, bolted clamps, or soldering, an exothermic connection never loosens, oxidizes, or develops contact resistance over decades underground.
The electrical conductivity of the weld mass equals or exceeds that of the conductors being joined, ensuring that high transient lightning currents and 50Hz fault discharges pass without hotspot development.
The entire process requires no external electrical power, gas cylinders, or welding machines, utilizing semi-permanent machined graphite moulds and starter powder for rapid, reliable field joints.
